Victims of crash that sent truck plunging into Potomac River ID’d

The two men killed in Thursday’s crash on the Arlington Memorial Bridge that sent a pickup truck through a barrier and into the chilly Potomac River have been identified.

Nikki Windsor told the District of Columbia’s WTTG-TV on Tuesday that the two deceased victims were her twin brothers, Jerel Wert, a passenger in the truck, and driver Jerod Wert. The two were on their way to a job when their vehicle crashed and fell into the river.

Jerel was recovered by first responders following the crash and taken in critical condition to a hospital where he died. Jerod’s body was recovered from the Potomac by dive teams after the truck was removed Friday, according to WDVM-TV.

Dashcam video from witness Nigisti Adane showed the white pickup in the rightmost lane on the bridge rear-ending another car, veering into the opposite lanes of traffic, hitting the bridge’s barrier and falling over the side into the river.

One person in the rear-ended car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
