The remains of a man were found near the Elephant Arch hiking area in Washington, Utah, over the weekend.

An unnamed hiker found the body near the Bone Wash trail on Sunday and reported it to authorities, and the Washington City Police Department and local sheriff’s deputies went to the scene.

The stages of decomposition indicated that the man’s remains were there for a long time, the WCPD said on Facebook Monday, adding that foul play didn’t appear to be the cause of death.

While the man’s next of kin has been notified, authorities are withholding his identity from the public out of respect to his family, the WCPD said.
