Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is wanted by Louisiana State Police on charges of negligent homicide after a deadly hit-and-run crash last month.
Police alleged in a Facebook post on Friday that Lacy was going southbound on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish in a 2023 Dodge Charger on Dec. 17 when he illegally crossed the centerline into the northbound lanes to pass other cars.
This caused a northbound pickup truck to abruptly brake and swerve right. Behind the truck, a 2017 Kia Cadenza swerved left to avoid Mr. Lacy’s Charger, crossed the center line and hit a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento. That car’s front-seat passenger, Herman Hall, 78, was injured and died at a hospital later that day.
The police said Lacy continued driving without stopping to call for help, report his involvement in the crash or help others at the scene. The drivers of the two Kias were moderately injured and hospitalized.
Lacy is charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle. A warrant has been put out for his arrest, and LSP said it contacted his legal representatives to ask when he would turn himself in.
Rocky Arceneaux, CEO of Alliance Sports Management and agent for Lacy, wrote on X that Lacy is cooperating fully with the authorities.
“We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation. … To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly. Out of respect for the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time,” Mr. Arceneaux added.
Two days after the crash, Lacy declared for the NFL draft with a Dec. 19 post on X. He did not play in LSU’s win over Baylor on Dec. 31 in the Texas Bowl. Lacy graduated from LSU in December.
