Authorities found human remains in a suitcase floating Wednesday in New York City’s East River near Manhattan.

Someone on a boat saw the suitcase and alerted police at around 5:30 p.m., the New York Post reported.

The New York Police Department Harbor Unit was sent to the scene, where it found the torso. Police said the remains belonged to a man, according to Gothamist. Authorities are investigating the death as suspicious but have not yet classified it as a homicide.

Police told WNBC-TV that the torso belonged to an adult.

The NYC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the man’s age, identity and cause of death.
