Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid might not wear friendship bracelets or treasure ticket stubs from the Eras Tour, but he endeared himself to fans of Taylor Swift when he defended the pop superstar Tuesday at the NFL combine.
Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, received boos and jeers from a crowd that largely favored the eventual-champion Philadelphia Eagles at this month’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
“She’s a good girl,” Reid said during a sitdown with NBC. “She handles that whole thing the right way; that’s a tough deal. But she does a great job of handling it.”
Swift has become a staple at Chiefs games since going public with her relationship during the 2023 season. Her presence — and the constant references to her on NFL broadcasts — frustrated some fans.
That won’t stop Reid from lifting up the 14-time Grammy winner.
“She’s part of the team, and like the other girlfriends and wives, they’re part of it,” he said. “And that’s all part of the process.”
NFL fans will likely see more of Swift next season. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday that he expects Kelce to return for his 13th season, dampening retirement rumors.
“How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up,” Veach said. “He has one more year under contract, and [we] still think he has that fire and desire to play.”
