The Washington Nationals are bringing back closer Kyle Finnegan, according to multiple reports.
Finnegan was an All-Star for the Nationals last season, posting 38 saves and a 3.68 ERA in 65 appearances. Washington’s front office non-tendered the 33-year-old in November, avoiding arbitration and allowing him to become a free agent.
After a few months on the open market, Finnegan agreed to return to the District on a one-year, $6 million contract, MLB Network reported.
When the Nationals opened spring training earlier this month, manager Dave Martinez stressed that his team could still add players before the regular season begins on March 27.
“[General manager Mike Rizzo] is constantly looking to get us better,” Martinez said. “We might be adding some more players here in the near future, definitely some more bullpen help if we can.”
