OPINION:
Government bills — including principal and interest on our $36 trillion gross federal debt — are paid from the profits earned by workers in the private sector (“Charitable organizations should be ’DOGED’,” Web, Feb. 18). Benefits from government goods and services are enjoyed by all who reside in America, including those who donate to “charitable” 501(c)3 organizations, even though the latter beneficiary pays zero for them.
This means that a private-sector worker who hates a particular issue, such as abortion or religions that preach killing heretics, will indirectly pay for those things — along with the donors who do advocate for the practices. Meanwhile, both enjoy the same government goods and services.
To counter misuse of these organizations, Congress should establish a maximum hourly wage rate for them as twice the minimum wage for the specific organization. Congress should also direct the Government Accountability Office to conduct periodic audits to determine whether such organizations violate the rights of “We the People” to have beneficiaries of government goods and services pay for feasting at the public trough.
