A U.K. journalist has gone missing in Brazil, sparking concern from an international correspondents association and a search by local authorities.
Charlotte Alice Peet, 32, has been missing for 11 days. She reportedly contacted a friend on Feb. 8, informing her that she was in Sao Paulo and planned to travel to Rio de Janeiro. No one has heard from Ms. Peet since.
On Tuesday, Brazil’s Association of Foreign Press Correspondents expressed concern for Ms. Peet’s well-being and confirmed that Brazilian authorities are investigating. The organization said authorities in Sao Paulo were handling the probe since that was where she was last seen.
“Her disappearance has sparked growing concern among colleagues and journalists in the region,” the association wrote in a statement.
U.K. authorities have also been made aware of the situation and are reportedly working with Brazilian investigators.
Ms. Peet worked for years as a freelance journalist in Brazil, contributing to Al Jazeera and British news outlets.
