OPINION:
I am shocked by the Democrats’ attacks on the Department of Government Efficiency for its exposure of the high levels of wasteful spending at government agencies (“Democrats protest as Trump’s DOGE squad exposes federal waste,” Web, Feb. 17). Voters should be asking Democrats why they are defending this kind of waste. Whose side are they on? Chicanery like this is why I stopped voting for politicians from that party.
It’s not just unwarranted foreign funding that has rightly drawn Republicans’ criticism, though. It’s also the social ideology grants for diversity, equity and inclusion; the mail monitoring; the huge sums spent on illegal migrants and the numerous other, unexplainable, unjustifiable line items. These revelations finally clarify the multiple rejections I have gotten when requesting funding for my nonprofit international sports league that promotes peace among teens in conflict countries. They’ve all read: “Due to the high request level, we can’t fund your request.” I’ve saved those rejection letters.
Instead of addressing the elephant in the room (e.g., the bankrolling of absurd causes using taxpayer money) leftist public officials and the mainstream media are resorting to name-calling, profanity and personal insults. What kind of message does this send our youth? I never got this type of response from African-American leaders when requesting support for my nonprofit organization.
The federal bureaucracies the Biden administration was either unwilling or unable to control have met their match with President Trump and his appointees, who are finally bringing a business approach to government spending. I understand the meaning of “Don’t
throw the baby out with the bath water,” so the rank-and-file staffers are not the issue; it’s the administrators, managers and directors who approved this spending who need to be removed at once.
