As long as there is a need for mind-altering drugs, there will be mind-altering drugs (“A new vision needed to tackle the drug crisis,” Web,  Feb. 11).

Reducing the availability of fentanyl will certainly help, but reducing the need for such chemicals would play a major role, too. Years ago, smoking was common, but now it is rare due to a targeted campaign against it. The same technique could be used against drugs, along with strong support for marriage and the family.

It’s no secret that almost all social pathologies can be traced back to the family. The children from broken or never-formed families lack the security that protects them from such pathologies.

Marriage and the family have been under attack for ages now, with devastating effects on our society. A campaign in their favor could be as successful as the one against smoking.

Now, with President Trump in office, all things are possible. We have a leader who has the will, the power and the understanding to solve, with the help of God, this devastating blotch on our pursuit of happiness.
