President Trump said Friday he had a phone call with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday and could meet with him as early as next week.

Mr. Trump said Mr. Starmer asked for a meeting, and that he agreed to one.

“We’re going to have a friendly meeting,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “Very good. We have a lot of good things going on. He asked to come and see me and I just accepted his asking.”

He said Mr. Starmer asked to come “next week or the week after.”

When asked what they would discuss, the president said he didn’t know since it was the prime minister’s request.

He noted that they’ve met twice and they get along “very well.”
