Police in Auckland, New Zealand, recovered a Faberge egg pendant that a 32-year-old man is accused of stealing and swallowing.
The suspect, unnamed by authorities, is alleged to have swallowed the $19,388 “Octopussy”-themed pendant on Nov. 28.
Police monitored him constantly after he was taken into custody, and on Thursday night, police recovered the pendant with the price tag still attached, according to New Zealand news site Stuff.
Since the suspect naturally excreted the pendant, medical intervention was not needed, police told the BBC.
The police didn’t say whether the pendant, which is made of 18-karat gold and features 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires, was damaged. The suspect is due back in court on theft charges Monday.
The store chain Partridge Jewellers told Radio New Zealand that “the team is grateful for the police’s swift support in dealing with the situation, which is now in the hands of legal professionals.”
The pendant, the store told Radio New Zealand, would be returned to its manufacturer, Faberge.
