A New Year’s Eve light show at the Washington Monument will turn the obelisk into a candle for America’s 250th anniversary.

The first night of the show, put on by the Freedom 250 nonpartisan nonprofit established by President Trump as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday and run until 12:06 a.m. Thursday.

The candle projection will be 250 feet high and serve to mark the arrival of the nation’s 250th year of existence, Freedom 250 said.

On subsequent nights from Thursday through Monday, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Freedom 250 will project presentations onto the Washington Monument to illustrate the story of America.

“The illumination of the Washington Monument marks the beginning of a momentous year for our nation—250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We invite every American—and every friend of America—to join this historic celebration of the triumph of the American spirit,” Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach said.

In addition to the Freedom 250 events, after midnight in Times Square in New York, the America250 organization commissioned by Congress will put on a second drop of the Times Square Ball.

The ball will be lit up in the national colors and, after it finishes dropping, a commemorative video will play; 2,000 pounds of red, white and blue confetti will be released and the version of “America the Beautiful” by Ray Charles will be played, America250 said.
