President Trump said the White House’s new ballroom will have a “drone-free” roof and bulletproof glass.
The president, while meeting with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu Monday at Mar-a-Lago, started talking about the ballroom.
The president said the ballroom could be used for the presidential inauguration because it’s got “all bulletproof glass, it’s got all drone, they call it drone-free roof, so drones won’t touch it.”
“It’s a big, beautiful, safe building,” he said.
The White House is expected to reveal plans for the ballroom to the National Capital Planning Commission next month. The president originally said the ballroom would cost $200 million, but he has said it could cost up to $400 million.
The funds for the ballroom have come from donations from Mr. Trump’s wealthy friends. Critics have decried the demolition of the East Wing for the president’s planned 90,0000-square-foot ballroom.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation also filed a suit to stop the construction of the ballroom until it went through the proper review processes and congressional approval.
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon said construction could be continued on underground work for now.
