A firework hit the field at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Sunday night before the Ravens’ prime-time game against the New England Patriots. No injuries were reported, and Ravens officials said they’re investigating the incident.
A video of the incident on social media gained more than 425,000 views. The video showed a streaking firework descending from the top of the stadium before landing near the 15-yard line. The remaining pyrotechnics detonated in the air above the venue, as intended.
“The safety of everyone at our stadium on gameday is our absolute top priority. There was one mechanical malfunction during our pregame pyrotechnic show that led to a device landing on the field,” a Ravens spokesperson said in a statement. “We are coordinating with our pyrotechnic vendor to fully understand what occurred and to ensure it does not happen again.”
The Ravens (7-8) lost 28-24 despite holding an 11-point lead with nine minutes remaining. The defeat complicated Baltimore’s path to the postseason. The Ravens will need to win both of their remaining games and would require the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6) to lose their final two matchups.
Baltimore’s quest for a third consecutive AFC North title continues with a game in Green Bay against the 9-5-1 Packers on Saturday night.
