Government, as the Declaration of Independence makes clear, is only put in place to secure the rights and liberties God already bestows to the individual.
This is the core of American Exceptionalism. It’s also the fight that’s been waged in this nation since founding days: Is it government who gives the rights and liberties to the individual, or is it God?
