OPINION:
A mass shooting at a Jewish gathering to celebrate Hanukkah on Bondi Beach in Australia left at least 15 dead and dozens injured. An Islamic State terrorist, supposedly acting as a lone wolf, shot and killed two U.S. National Guard soldiers and a civilian interpreter, and wounded three others, during an ambush near Palmyra, Syria. An unidentified gunman stormed a classroom at Brown University and shot and killed two students and wounded nine others. And finally, Rob and Michele Reiner were stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home, and police have arrested the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick.
And as Democrats express shock and horror at the antisemitism that fueled the Bondi Beach massacre, they simultaneously demand this: more gun control, please.
More gun control — but zero calls for knife control.
Democrats never met a bit of logic they couldn’t tear asunder.
Here’s Sen. Charles E. Schumer in a written statement on both the Brown University and Australia beach attacks: “Terrorists in Sydney, Australia, have shot and killed [15] people and injured more during a Hanukkah celebration. … As I have warned repeatedly, antisemitism is a scourge around the world that must be condemned loudly and fought vigorously at every turn.”
In other words, it’s the ugly, evil heart of humankind that drove the antisemitic shootings on Bondi Beach.
And here’s part of his statement about the Brown shootings: “On the heels of a tragic shooting here at home at Brown University, our hearts are extremely heavy. … These sickening events have become far too normal in our world. We must do more to stop gun violence, including congressional action on gun safety reforms.”
In other words, it’s the gun that drove the Brown University shootings.
Democrats can’t have it both ways.
They can’t blame the gun in one shooting, but an evil heart in another. That’s called political expediency.
That’s called using tragedy for political gain.
Democrats do it all the time.
“After Charlie Kirk’s death, AOC asks ‘Are we going to do something’ about gun violence,” USA Today wrote in September, about the socialist-pretending-to-be-Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s response to the shooting of Turning Point USA’s Kirk.
“Dem Senator Slams Trump for Making U.S. More Prone to Gun Violence,” The New Republic wrote, of Sen. Chris Murphy’s response to the Brown University shootings.
His remarks, made on CNN, went like this: “Over the last year, President Trump has been engaged in a dizzying campaign to increase violence in this country.” How so? Do tell. As Murphy tells it: “He is restoring gun rights to felons and people who have lost their ability to buy guns, he eliminated the White House office of gun violence protection …” and yada yada, blather, blather. You know the deal. Democrats never change their rhetoric. Trump bad; Democrats good; impeach Trump.
A continent away, and the leftists are doing this: “Australia moves to tighten gun laws after Hanukkah mass shooting,” Fox News wrote. And from NPR: “Australia announces strict new gun laws.”
For real?
Australia has been warned about its mass migration of Muslims and ensuing displays of antisemitism in the streets for months now. Israel’s intel warned of a potential act of antisemitic violence. Australia’s intel found Iran was responsible for at least two antisemitic arson attacks in the country in recent times. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese just acknowledged that the younger of the two shooters — it was a father-son massacring team — had been investigated by the country’s intel in 2019 for links to ISIS but had been deemed a low security threat.
“This [was] a targeted attack on Jewish Australians,” Albanese said, CBS News reported.
Seemingly in the next breath, Albanese said we need ”tougher gun laws,” Firstpost reported.
What is taking place in the minds of Democrats and leftists that makes them so obtuse?
The roots of violence are the evil thoughts and desires that brew in the hearts of humans. From thoughts come actions; from the evil imaginations spring the evil behaviors. Recognizing antisemitism as the root of one shooting, but failing to recognize radical Islam for another, yet blaming guns in yet another, while failing to blame knives in a couple of fatal stabbings, doesn’t make sense.
Guns don’t kill unless someone pulls the trigger — just like knives don’t stab people unless someone does the stabbing.
Democrats need to stop using tragedy to win at the ballot boxes and score points against political adversaries. It’s not just a tiresome and overused political strategy; it’s become offensive to the intellect, actually. But it’s actually evil in itself.
And truly, between abortion and surgically destroying confused little boys and girls, i.e. transgenderism, Democrats commit enough acts of evil. They could use a breather, if only to gather their thoughts and chase the clouds of confusing, conflicting messages from their heads.
