OPINION:
The handwriting is on the wall. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson hate President Trump more than they love the city of Chicago (“‘Stay out of our city’: Chicago officials slam Trump’s threat to target the city,” Web, Aug. 25).
Instead of putting the lives of Chicagoans and the safety and welfare of the city first, Messrs. Pritzker and Johnson are adamantly refusing to consider having National Guard troops in Chicago, just because Mr. Trump is the one offering them. It’s a commonsense solution to ending the violence and saving lives, but these men are not putting vulnerable Chicagoans first, and their actions are nothing but pure, unadulterated belligerence.
They still don’t get it, or maybe they just don’t want to admit why Mr. Trump was elected: He puts America and the precious lives of Americans first.
