It’s a love story, baby — she said yes. Pop culture’s newsiest couple, pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, are getting married. The pair announced their engagement on social media on Tuesday.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Ms. Swift wrote on Instagram, along with a handful of photos of the two in a flower-filled garden with Kelce on one knee.

The couple has dominated headlines since announcing their relationship in October 2023. Ms. Swift became a regular at Chiefs games — and on NFL broadcasts — as the Chiefs made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2024 and 2025, winning in 2024.

Kelce crossed over into music, appearing with his now-fiancée during stops on her record-breaking Eras Tour.

The two joined forces again this month as Ms. Swift announced her next album — “The Life of a Showgirl” — during an appearance on the “New Heights” podcasthosted by Travis and his brother Jason Kelce. The show became the most-watched broadcast in YouTube history with more than 1 million concurrent viewers.

The newly engaged couple’s courtship began on the podcast. Travis Kelce put out a public plea to meet Ms. Swift after making a friendship bracelet for the 14-time Grammy winner, a common gesture among the singer’s legions of fans.

“This dude didn’t get a meet and greet, and it’s everyone’s problem,” she said during her first-ever podcast appearance.

The strategy worked on Ms. Swift, though. The grand gesture by the three-time Super Bowl champion matched her hopeless romantic tendencies.

“If this guy isn’t crazy, this is sort of like what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” she said.

The couple didn’t announce a wedding date on Tuesday, though they received countless well-wishes from sports fans, Swifties and A-list celebrities.

“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love,” Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, wrote on Instagram. “Just so happy for these two.”

“Man, it’s incredible, great for them,” defensive end Mike Danna, the only Chief who spoke to media after the announcement, told reporters. “Anytime you find that joy, happiness, it’s a beautiful thing.”

The commander in chief even weighed in.

“I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy and I think that she’s a terrific person,” President Trump said from the White House. “I wish them a lot of luck.”

The Chiefs open the season on Friday, Sept. 5, against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo. Ms. Swift’s new album debuts a month later, on Oct. 3.
