OPINION:
Hundreds, with the backing of Democrats, have staged marches to the White House in protest of President Trump’s crackdown on crime in the District of Columbia, the nation’s capital, characterizing his tasking of federal agents to the streets to clear out the criminal element as a radical, unwarranted, even discriminatory act.
Thousands more, meanwhile, are cheering. Yay, Team Trump, they say. Yay, law and order — it’s about time, they say.
For the first time in who knows how long, the streets of the District are becoming safer, not less safe, and more secure, not less secure, and even clearer and cleaner, not more crowded and congested with homeless encampments — and now citizens and visitors alike are beginning to feel like they can go about their business in relative peace; or, at the very least, without having to step off curbs to avoid all the human excrement on the sidewalks. And boy, do Democrats hate that.
“What’s happening here in Washington, D.C., is just a stunt,” said Sen. Chris Murphy, Connecticut Democrat, on “Meet the Press” on NBC.
Spoken like a true black sedan-escorted, armed-guarded elitist. When’s the last time Murphy rode the Metro at night? Or drove himself — anywhere?
“Two 15-year-old suspects have been arrested in connection with an attempted unarmed carjacking in Washington, D.C., by a group of perpetrators in which a 19-year-old man, identified by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk as a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee, was assaulted, according to police,” ABC News wrote on Aug. 6.
That was the kickoff to Trump’s announced federal takeover of the city. And since, Democrats have been trying to spin the idea that crime in the District had been on the downslide — that since Joe Biden’s presidential days, in fact, crime in the District had been dwindling. That’s the aristocratic class argument, the one that all the leftists in political offices and bureaucratic positions like to sling about these days. But to regular folks, the kind who pay the salaries of these self-absorbed aristocratic pols, 101 homicides is still 101 homicides, even if it’s fewer than 113 homicides.
When the Metropolitan Police report on Aug. 15 that violent crime between 2024 and 2025 has fallen 26 percent — and that homicides have fallen by 11 percent in that same period — it’s not like those numbers are cause for bragging. Just ask the victims. They’re probably not as enthusiastic as the Democrats about drops-in-crime data.
Besides: “Expert flips script on Dems pushing ‘cherry-picked’ crime stats to resist Trump’s DC crackdown,” Fox News reported.
Of course the Democrats are spinning data. It’s what they do. When the Trump gets going — when the Trump gets tough — the Democrats get deranged.
“These Democrats are citing statistics from the FBI, from its uniform crime report. And the problem with that is they’re portraying it as if it’s a record of violent crime. But [it’s actually] a record of crimes that are reported to the police and then those are the crimes that get reported to the FBI. It’s not a full record of all violent crimes,” said Jim Agresti, president of Just Facts, to Fox News.
Calling Sen. Murphy.
Normal people want law and order. And normal people don’t try and downplay crime, and the occurrence of crime, especially if the downplay comes from a place of politicking.
Republican-controlled states are sending their national guard units to the District to help out police — and the left ain’t liking it. Not one little bit.
“American soldiers and airmen policing American citizens on American soil is #UnAmerican,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser posted on her personal X account, of the deployment of National Guard troops from Ohio, West Virginia and South Carolina. Well, so is allowing the criminals to run the streets.
If Bowser had been doing her job, Trump wouldn’t have called for federal troops in the city.
“Trump’s D.C. ‘crisis’ enters 2nd week with more soldiers,” NPR wrote.
“Protesters march on DC streets over federal agent patrols, takeover of police,” NBC4 Washington wrote.
“D.C. fight back against Trump’s takeover — in court and on the streets,” Axios wrote.
If Democrats running D.C. fought criminals the way they’re fighting Trump — the nation’s capital would be the safest city in America.
