The Commanders’ 2024 draft class has its first disappointment. The team released linebacker Dominique Hampton, a fifth-round pick in last year’s draft, on Monday morning.
Last year’s draft class was the first under coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters and featured immediate contributors such as quarterback Jayden Daniels, cornerback Mike Sainristil and defensive tackle Johnny Newton.
Hampton, who converted from safety to linebacker in Washington, appeared in just one game for the Commanders. He played six special teams snaps, never breaking into the defensive group led by linebackers Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu.
The Commanders also released cornerback Allan George and defensive end Villami Fehoko Jr.
In corresponding moves, Washington added depth for the remainder of training camp after hosting workouts following Sunday’s practice.
Linebacker Duke Riley and cornerbacks Essang Bassey and Antonio Hamilton will join the Commanders at training camp with less than four weeks remaining before the regular season kicks off.
