Let’s recall that the CIA and American foreign policymakers were unable to foresee or forestall India’s nuclear tests — and that the Obama administration’s Iran nuclear deal negotiators agreed to allow Iran to forge the secret side deals. This meant, of course, that we could not properly evaluate Tehran’s compliance.

Iran now possesses deeply buried technical development infrastructure, as well as enough highly enriched uranium for five or six nuclear weapons. It also has nuclear weapon delivery systems.

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Iran will not enter negotiations with the U.S. regarding its nuclear program until punitive sanctions are removed. Put another way, Iran is telling the U.S. that once it gets what it wants, Iran is, as always, willing to endlessly feign negotiations.

Meanwhile “Death to America” remains Iran’s unchanging, long-held and clearly stated goal, and we will have to face this reality squarely at some point.
