OPINION:
A federal judge in a 22-page decision called out the White House’s deportation of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, 29, to El Salvador as “wholly lawless,” and ordered Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to bring him back to the United States, specifically, to his former home in Maryland. This is a guy that Vice President J.D. Vance reminded “was a convicted MS-13 gang member with no legal right to be here.”
The Atlantic, meanwhile, has reported Abrego Garcia was never convicted; that his 2019 arrest and subsequent denial of bond was based on an informant’s mistaken claim that he was MS-13; and that the White House had violated a court-awarded protection-from-deportation status by sweeping him up and sending him, along with scores of other illegals and suspected gang members, back to the “Terrorism Confinement Center in El Salvador.
Democrats and their friends in the judiciary sure do care about the rights of gang members and suspected gang members.
They haven’t gotten this riled up about the Constitution since Roe v. Wade was back at the High Court and they were fighting for the rights of women and girls everywhere to abort, abort, abort.
Once again, leftists are on the wrong side of Americans’ wills, though.
From Pew Research Center, this March: “Roughly one-third of U.S. adults (32 percent) say all immigrants living in the country illegally should be deported, while 16 percent say none should bet deported. About half (51 percent) say at least some should face deportation.”
Fully 97 percent of those who want at least “some” illegals deported say those who commit violent crimes are the no-brainers — send ‘em packing, they say. Fifty-two percent of that group, meanwhile, say illegals should be deported even if they’ve only committed nonviolent crimes.
That means the vast majority of Americans approve of what this administration is doing in terms of clearing the country of illegals.
It doesn’t make political sense for Democrats to put up such resistance — unless, of course, they think the payoff is so great as to justify going to great lengths to protect suspected MS-13 members. And that very well may be true.
“DOGE sounds alarm obnoxious Social Security numbers given to ‘voting’ noncitizens,” The Washington Examiner reported a few days ago.
The battle becomes clear.
Thankfully, this White House is determined — and unafraid.
“The U.S. Justice Department told an appeals court,” The Associated Press wrote, “that a judge did not have the authority to order the Trump administration to broker the return of a Maryland man [Abrego Garcia] … and it suspended a government lawyer for saying in court “the deportation was an error.”
It’s not an error, the White House still claims.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said lawyer Erez Reuveni spoke out of turn by saying the deportation was erroneous, and for that, he was suspended, along with supervisor August Flentje.
“You have to vigorously argue on behalf of your client,” Bondi said on “Fox News Sunday,” about the suspended attorneys.
Who to believe, who to believe — the Democrats and their leftist-appointed judges who hate President Trump, hate deporting illegals, hate America First agendas? Or Team Trump — Team MAGA — and all the pro-America, pro-American, pro-law-and-order, pro-national security promises backed by actions Team Trump and Team MAGA have made since taking office?
This White House has earned the support of the American people.
If Democrats want to go to bat for gang members, thugs, criminals and drug traffickers, so be it. But the American people are not on their side.
