The WNBA season hasn’t started, but the injury bug has already bitten the Washington Mystics.
Rookie guard Georgia Amoore, the No. 6 pick in this year’s pro draft, suffered an ACL injury in her right knee during Tuesday’s practice, the team announced.
Mystics officials didn’t provide a timeline for Amoore’s return.
“Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate,” the franchise said Wednesday.
The Kentucky product was expected to compete for a starting role in Washington’s backcourt. The team traded two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins to the Chicago Sky this offseason, leading to a need at guard. Amoore averaged 19.6 points or Kentucky last season.
Amoore was one of three first-round picks for the rebuilding Mystics. The franchise added Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron with the No. 3 pick and USC forward Kiki Iriafen with the fourth overall selection.
The Mystics open the preseason on Saturday at Indiana. The regular season tips off at home on May 16 versus Atlanta.
