OPINION:
While Sen. Raphael Warnock, Georgia Democrat, exhorts his parishioners at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta to tithe to support the church, he is now living rent-free in a million-dollar luxury home bought by that church — in addition to receiving payment for his part-time role as pastor there. (Warnock refuses to say, however, whether he tithes himself.)
This is the same church that evicted poor Black tenants from the apartment building it owns because they were behind on their rent — some by as little as $28.55. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. would surely not approve of this, and neither should the church’s flock.
