I am a Donald Trump supporter and I appreciate and agree with almost everything he is doing for our country — except when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine war. My support for that conflict has never been strong, but now it is nonexistent.

The U.S. president should never make decisions based solely on “the deal,” but rather on what our country stands for. There will always be someone who wants to rule the world, and on this matter, “a deal” should never be made. Neville Chamberlain negotiated with Hitler, and look how that turned out.

President Trump is acting as though Vladimir Putin is an ally and our real allies are our enemy. He says Putin wants to stop the war because of all the deaths it’s causing — but he then allows Putin to continue to kill hundreds in Ukraine while stalling peace talks. He also says Crimea should remain with Russia and that Putin has made a big concession by not taking all of Ukraine. With these statements, Trump has gone against everything America stands for, and he has rewarded and encouraged a world aggressor.

Is our country going from the primary defender against evil aggression to making deals with evil dictators (who, by the way, will also come for us in the long run)?

I’m sure some will say we are not the world’s protector, but if not us, who?
