At the Fairfax County School Board meeting last week, the 12 Democratic-endorsed members voted in favor of a Trans Day of Visibility Proclamation, officially commemorating the day for the public school district on March 31.

Such a proclamation celebrates the “special” status of the transgender community in Fairfax County’s public schools, which is consistent with policies in the district’s code of conduct. Proclaimed gender identity takes priority in the district over biological sex, to the detriment of women in sports, bathrooms and locker rooms. Preferred pronouns are mandated, thereby compelling speech and violating the religious rights of many students.

The leftist biases of the Fairfax County Public Schools’ leaders are overt and long-standing, but the timing of this proclamation is particularly brazen, even for these school board members. On Feb. 12, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights announced its Title IX investigation into Fairfax County Public Schools, in addition to several other public school districts in Northern Virginia.

Instead of complying with Title IX and President Donald Trump’s executive order “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling,” Fairfax County’s school board members are waiving their proverbial middle fingers in the air by doubling down on the indoctrination and discrimination of conservative and religiously inclined students. The district could lose $168.1 million in federal funds for its failure to adhere to the Trump administration’s directives.

Which side will give in?
