Three armed men broke into the home of former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman over the weekend, the five-time Pro Bowler said on social media. Sherman’s wife and two children were at the Seattle-area house but were not harmed.
The former Seattle Seahawk posted security footage on X that showed the gunmen in his home on Saturday.
“House being robbed at gunpoint with my family in it isn’t what anyone wants for a birthday gift,” wrote Sherman, who turned 37 on Sunday and wasn’t home during the incident. “Scary situation that my wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people, please reach out.”
The King County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that no arrests had been made.
Burglars around the country have targeted current and former NFL players with increasing frequency over the past year.
Burglars breached the homes of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, and several men were arrested after Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home was burglarized. Authorities said the suspects at Burrow’s property took photos posing with the player’s watch and necklaces.
“The burglary groups appear to be gathering information on potential victims through public records, media reports and social media,” the FBI wrote in a memo to the NFL. “Surveillance tactics have included attempted home deliveries and posing as grounds maintenance or joggers in a neighborhood.”
Sherman retired from the NFL after the 2021 season, having played 11 years with the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
