Concessions are going to be a lot cheaper at Coastal Carolina football games this fall. The university announced Monday that it would offer free food and fountain drinks to fans at Brooks Stadium.

The offer will allow visitors to receive nachos, popcorn, hot dogs and drinks without a limit. Hungry Chanticleers fans can only grab four items each time they head to the concession stand, but they can return as many times as they’d like throughout the game.

Visitors will be required to download the athletic department’s to-be-launched app to scan for the food.

“Our fans are the heartbeat of Teal Nation. …” Chance Miller, vice president for intercollegiate athletics and university recreation, said in a statement. “With the CCU Kickoff Meal Deal, we’re excited to offer free concessions this fall as a way to say thank you for the energy, passion and support they bring to Brooks Stadium every game.”

The move quickly drew rave reviews from college football fans on social media. The university even announced the initiative on Monday so it wouldn’t be lost in Tuesday’s onslaught of April Fools’ pranks.

“Coastal Carolina is attempting to change this country for the better,” Barstool Sports commentator J.P. Hovery wrote on social media.

“Genius marketing move,” college football insider Brett McMurphy wrote. “Chants start out season 1-0.”

The free concessions aren’t the first bold move from Coastal Carolina’s athletics department. The university offered a full refund to season ticket holders if the men’s and women’s basketball teams combined for 35 wins in the 2024-25 campaign.

The teams fell just short of the “We win, you win” guarantee, with 33 victories this season.
