Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in my Georgia community visited by President Biden (“Biden, Harris get double-barreled disaster test with Helene closely followed by Hurricane Milton,” web, Oct. 8).

Relatives in the Carolinas were even more devastated, but we all believed the federal government would help. Sorry, cousins, apparently the Federal Emergency Management Agency that was funded to pay for recovery from hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and other disasters is broke. Is that because it has spent huge sums of money on illegal immigrants?

Some 150 million private sector workers who produce and sell goods and services for profits that governments seize as taxes have a legitimate question: Who in government is in charge of spending profits seized from the private sector?

Is socialism no longer about government controlling production, but rather about controlling profits? Have voters forgotten about the unalienable rights to “life, liberty, or property” enshrined in the Constitution and empowered in the Fifth and 14th amendments?

Anyone who protests that FEMA’s act is unconstitutional can now be silenced by a simple majority Supreme Court opinion by a politically stacked court.

Is that how the dream of America’s founders and patriots dies, one Supreme Court opinion at a time?
