What could I say to convince a woman who is focused solely on abortion in this election to think instead about the future of our nation (“Abortion passes inflation as top election issue for women under 30, survey finds,” web, Oct. 11)?

Regardless of my personal opinion on abortion, as an older citizen I am totally focused on the future for my children, grandchildren and the unborn.

What is clear to me is that the Republican Party is focused on the values that established this country: self-reliance and hard work, not the insult of government handouts. And the party believes in regulation only to the extent it is needed to keep some people from having an unfair advantage over others, not for the purpose of advancing self-serving agendas or favoring special interest groups.

It also seems obscene to me that certain people would prefer to have millions of unwanted and illegal immigrants swelling our population rather than babies from American women. The rebirth of a nation that embodies the principles of the Founding Fathers necessarily includes embracing the virtues and pride of ladies who want to be mothers and have families in a prosperous nation.
