OPINION:
Israel’s long-awaited strikes on Iran offered a sobering lesson that Israel’s Western allies have yet to fully embrace: Bullies only respond to strength (“Five things to know about Israel’s attack on Iran.,” web, Oct. 26).
After enduring more than a year of relentless missile and terror attacks from Iran and its proxies, Israel showed that it can reach the source, striking key military targets more than 1,000 miles away.
These strikes were calibrated (limited to military sites) but carried a clear message: Israel’s air force can penetrate Iranian defenses with precision and purpose.
The West’s reluctance to project similar strength has emboldened Iran to expand its influence and terror campaigns across the Middle East. By contrast, Israel has now sent the kind of message that resonates with Tehran: It can strike again, harder and with resolve. And it is not afraid to do so.
