OPINION:
The people in charge of this comical Democratic campaign event should be prosecuted for their gross negligence (“Shrapnel injures reporter’s arm after Democratic Senate candidate shoots weapon at campaign event,” web, Oct. 23).
The targets should have been at least 300 feet away and the background for the targets should have been wood with a dirt embankment behind it. It should not have had metal plating.
Even worse, there were containers of Tannerite on the table from where the shots were fired. Tannerite is used to make targets explode when stuck by a bullet. The manufacturer says no one should be within 100 yards when the product is used. There is no mention in the article of whether the Tannerite caused the shrapnel injury.
This is like throwing a grenade that has a kill radius of 100 feet a mere 50 feet and being surprised when things go badly.
