The idea that Israel should cease firing at Hamas now that its leader, Yahya Sinwar, has been killed flies in the face of historical precedent (“Blinken in Israel as U.S. looks to renew cease-fire efforts after the killing of Hamas leader,” web, Oct. 22).

The Allies did not stop fighting the Nazis once Adolf Hitler died; they fought until Germany surrendered. The United States did not stop its war on terrorism when Osama bin Laden was killed; U.S. forces in Iraq are still fighting terrorists there to this day.

By continuing its pursuit of the terrorists who slaughtered 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023, the Israeli army can ensure that such atrocities will never be repeated. That’s a goal all decent people should share.
