OPINION:
The 180 missiles Iran launched against Israel last week were intended to murder as many Israelis as possible (“What to know about Iran’s missile attack and Israel’s operations in Lebanon and Gaza,” web, Oct. 2).
This missile attack was an act of war. Let there be no doubt: Iran has made it plain it is in a war with Israel. The United States is going to help Israel survive in this life-and-death struggle.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan has said that “there will be consequences, severe consequences, for this attack and we will work with Israel to make that the case.”
The Israeli air force is expected to launch an all-out attack to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities any day now. But it is impossible for bomb-laden fighter planes to fly from Israel to Iran and back without running out of fuel, so I would not be surprised if the U.S. Air Force supplied refueling tanker planes to ensure the safe return of Israeli pilots.
Suggestions of a “proportional response” to Iran’s savagery are nonsense. No wonder they have been proposed by the nonsensical President Biden. Unlike rose-glassed Pollyannas such as Mr. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, realists will be thanking God that Israel is finally doing the work that the rest of the world should have done long ago.
