Verizon internet outage impacts thousands of Fios customers for hours

Verizon Fios internet went out for four hours early Tuesday along a swathe of the East Coast, with thousands of customers reporting issues online.

The company said the outage was caused by a network issue, though it didn’t specify the nature of the problem.

“A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast for a short period of time. As soon as the issue was identified, our engineering teams quickly restored the service,” the Verizon Support account posted on X.

Outage reporting website Downdetector spotted a spike in Verizon’s internet service at 12:24 a.m. The platform’s map showed areas with high numbers of reports, stretching from Richmond, Virginia, to New York City and westward to Pittsburgh.

By 4 a.m., the flood of reported outages on Downdetector had subsided.
