OPINION:
I recently had a Kamala Harris supporter tell me that voting for Donald Trump shows I don’t care about the future of our daughters and granddaughters.
He seemed to base this opinion solely on his belief that Mr. Trump and the Republicans will take away “reproductive rights,” a misconception being promoted by the Democrats and the Harris-Walz campaign.
I find it incredibly sad that any woman would base her vote solely on being able to terminate a pregnancy, especially since abortion will remain legal in some form in perpetuity in almost every state.
I also am bewildered that any man believes he can claim support for women’s rights based on the ability of his wife to terminate the life of his children and his daughter’s right to end the lives of his grandchildren.
This is especially true since the act of abortion is irreversible and so many women deeply regret it for the rest of their lives.
Worse, by supporting the Harris-Walz ticket, that man is supporting the party that can’t define the word woman, wants to allow biological men access to his wife’s and daughter’s locker rooms and bathrooms and wants biological men to compete against women, taking the medals, awards and scholarships that rightly belong to our daughters and granddaughters.
He should also keep in mind that a significant majority of late-term abortions are sex-selection abortions — meaning they are almost always because the baby is female. Families in India, China and early America used to abandon female infants to die. I had hoped that we as a culture had grown beyond that.
