President Biden’s State of the Union speech Thursday isn’t likely to contain many surprises. The elderly statesman’s actions and rhetoric have been remarkably consistent from the day he took the oath of office on his 19th century family Bible.

“This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge, and unity is the path forward,” he said on Inauguration Day. “For without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and fury… And I pledge this to you: I will be a president for all Americans. I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as for those who did.”

He even proclaimed his own first day in office to be “A National Day of Unity.”

But we’ve seen more bitterness and fury than unity, as the administration seeks every opportunity to drive wedges between Americans based upon the color of their skin. Last month, for instance, the Federal Communications Commission ordered every radio and television station in the country to release details on the sex, race and ethnicity of each of its employees. The goal of this scheme is enabling third-party activist groups to create scorecards they can use to push racial hiring quotas.

The president hasn’t fought particularly hard for the families feeling the impact of administration policies on every trip to the supermarket. The tally at the cash register rose 3.9% in Mr. Biden’s first year, another 10% in 2022 and 5% more last year.

The fiscal pain is the result of unhinged spending that sent interest rates through the roof, combined with new regulatory and tax burdens. Instead of acknowledging mistakes, the unifier-in-chief points the finger of blame at farmers and food producers, calling them “greedy.”

“We know prices are still too high because of what I call ‘greedflation’ and ‘shrinkflation,’” said Mr. Biden.

The American people aren’t fooled by the divisive words. A New York Times/Sienna poll released Monday found across all demographic lines — including race and sex — twice as many people found Mr. Trump’s policies helped them compared to Mr. Biden’s. In fact, 43% of respondents went so far as to say the current president’s actions have hurt them personally.

And no persons have suffered more than Mr. Biden’s political opponents. Democratic policies have emptied jails of violent thugs, and the Department of Justice has taken the opportunity to fill the empty cells with Republicans.

This includes Douglass Mackey, the maker of memes who was convicted for the supposed crime of posting one joke image about Hillary Clinton on Twitter. The DOJ put Mr. Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, and independent journalist Steve Baker, in leg irons.

Mr. Navarro is being punished for refusing to cooperate with a Democratic committee set up to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol tumult. Mr. Baker was arrested last week for spending a grand total of 37 minutes in the Capitol, filming events without doing any damage or harm to anyone. Mr. Baker is one of the 1,162 individuals Mr. Biden’s Justice Department has rounded up for their failure to support Mr. Biden on his National Day of Unity.

The American people deserve better.
