OPINION:
If Israeli Muslims can join the Israel Defense Forces to fight and die alongside their sabra and other Jewish brothers and sisters in arms when defending Israel, so, too, should Israeli’s ultra-Orthodox (who are exempt from military service).
There must be close to 250,000 Haredi Jewish men in Israel who could fight for the country’s (and ultimately, the rest of the Judeo-Christian world’s) very existence. Here’s hoping that proposed conscription legislation for Haredi draft-age men becomes law in Israel.
Any “we do not fight” Haredim having doubts should lock on to the fact that apart from Israel’s hundreds of millions of traditional Middle Eastern enemies, Israel today faces the combined might of totalitarian China, a despotic, Putin-led Russia and third-generation-crazy North Korea. Make no mistake: All of these are aiding and abetting tiny Israel’s traditional enemies.
Israel must stop allowing some 1.2 million ultra-Orthodox to lead a cosseted existence safe from the difficult, courageous work of defending the state of Israel (and the free world).
