We as a nation seem to have abandoned God. He is no longer welcome in the public square. For example, God was kicked out of our public schools decades ago. Then there is the majority of the media, which take a dim and suspicious view of religious, churchgoing people. Among our leaders, it seems many of the virtuous character traits, honesty, compassion, integrity and prudence are often lacking.

In recent years, this has made me wonder whether God has abandoned us as a nation. But last weekend’s events in Pennsylvania — at once atrocious, tragic and miraculous — may have provided the answer to my question. No, God has not abandoned this nation.

I pray that those events give us a renewed faith in God, from whom all our rights derive.
