OPINION:
Sen. J.D. Vance, Ohio Republican, brings nothing to the table that will have any impact on the upcoming election (“J.D. Vance formally nominated as Republican vice presidential nominee,” web, July 15).
He was anti-Trump until he needed the former president for his Senate race. Since becoming a senator, he has shown little capability on policy and even less on the politics of getting things done. He has been quick to get in front of cameras, but little else.
What distresses me the most about Mr. Vance is that, like Dan Quayle in 1988, he has nothing with which to positively affect the outcome of the upcoming election. I have seen little over the past 18 months that Mr. Vance has been in the Senate to show he has any understanding of the real threat of the deep state. But I’ve seen a lot showing that he has ties to the RINOs and the megadonors.
Donald Trump could have made a historic pick for his running mate, such as Sen. Tim Scott, South Carolina Republican, or even Democrat turned independent Tulsi Gabbard. Either of these would have caused huge problems for the Democratic base. Instead, he picked a man who has no idea how to deal with the press corps and has shown no ability to deliver what is needed.
Mr. Trump stepped in it with this pick. Mike Pence brought a lot to the table. Mr. Vance is a lightweight at best.
