I appreciate and understand the disappointment many have concerning the Republican Party’s platform in this year’s election. However, I suspect that precious few voters actually read the platforms of either party when considering their ballot picks in presidential elections, and that the points in those party platforms are forgotten after each party’s convention anyway.

I would urge those who are fed up to focus on the candidates for the presidency. This election is unusual in that we may have two candidates who each have served as president and their records are in stark contrast to each other. These records — not some platform document written by the Republican National Committee — should be the basis for our voting.
