OPINION:
Claudine Gay and the progressive zeitgeist she represents believe that on-the-job training for the role of Harvard University president is acceptable — even though Harvard presidents in the past have been fully credentialed before assuming the corner office (“Media identifies villains in Harvard president’s downfall: Conservatives, of course,” web, Jan. 4).
They may actually assume that all Black women are immune from the Peter Principle, the idea that people rise to the level of their incompetence.
Ms. Gay’s testimony on campus antisemitism and her response to campus calls for the genocide of Jews was incompetent, as was her scholarship, which was thin and riddled with plagiarism.
Her column in The New York Times just after resigning was embarrassing; there was meager self-analysis, no full-throated apology for the tumult she caused and no recognition that the progressive cocoon of diversity, equity and inclusion policies bears the brunt of responsibility for what ails the campus world.
