A driver was killed in a car accident in Port Tobacco, Maryland, after another motorist struck a deer, which was propelled by the collision into the victim’s car, state police said.

At about 3:44 p.m. Tuesday, a deer ran into the eastbound lanes of Maryland Route 6, directly into the path of a Nissan Altima driven by Latoya Brassell. The strike sent the deer careening through the air into a Toyota Tundra driven by Gregory Gauvin, 63, of Welcome, Maryland, the Maryland State Police at La Plata Barrack said in a Facebook post.

Ms. Brassell, 50, of Waldorf, Maryland, had a 13-year-old passenger, unnamed by police, riding with her. Police did not say whether either of them were injured in the crash.

The deer went through the passenger window, hit Mr. Gauvin and then went out the Toyota’s rear window. The car then went off the roadway and hit some trees, leaving Mr. Gauvin with “injuries not compatible with life,” state police said.

Mr. Gauvin was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not specify the nature of Mr. Gauvin’s injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
