OPINION:
A Finnish lawmaker is on trial for expressing her Christian faith (“Finnish prosecutor appeals hate speech acquittal of Christian lawmaker who quoted Bible online,” web, Jan. 12). Let’s play that again: Paivi Rasanen, a member of the Finnish parliament since 1995, is facing prosecution for tweeting text from Romans 1:24-27 in June 2019.
Despite being found not guilty in March 2022, the prosecution appealed the Helsinki court ruling, and Ms. Rasanen is once again on trial for a “crime” she did not commit.
But the Bible is no longer in vogue, or so it is believed. The Judeo-Christian concept of marriage and sexuality, as revealed in Holy Scripture, is deemed out of date in a humanist society that bears little resemblance to that of our forebears.
Ms. Rasanen is willing to testify in Finland’s Supreme Court, and even the European Court of Human Rights, according to The Washington Times. Isn’t it the Bible, after all, that’s on trial?
