Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took a shot at former President Donald Trump for the way he dealt with Black Lives Matter protests and rioting during the summer of 2020.
“He sat in the White House and tweeted, ‘Law and order,’ but he did nothing to ensure law and order,” Mr. DeSantis said of Mr. Trump during the Republican debate Wednesday night. “As your president, I will never let our cities burn.”
He also took a swipe at rival Nikki Haley, saying a post she shared on X was “virtue signaling to the left.”
“She tweeted during this period of time that the death of George Floyd was ‘personal and painful for each and every American,’” he said. “People in Iowa had nothing to do with that. Or Florida. Or South Carolina.
“She was virtue signaling to the left. She was accepting a narrative to try and impress people who are never going to like us,” he said. “I never bought into going after the police. We back the blue.”
