“Deceptive normalcy: A border town with a front-row seat to the Gaza carnage” (web, Feb. 17) reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear again that Israel’s retaliatory defensive mission will continue as long as Hamas resists and wields power in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has underestimated the Israelis’ resolve, just as Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq underestimated it in 1967. It ended in those nations’ humiliating defeat in what is now referred to as the Third Arab-Israeli War.
Arab nations now incite a multitude of citizen martyrs willing to sacrifice themselves, some even as suicide bombers, but they will ultimately fail because the entirety of Israeli citizenry is dedicated to the survival of the Jewish state.
