Here’s how I imagine the conversation between Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris and General Manager Adam Peters went shortly before the team announced its new head coach (“Commanders to hire Dan Quinn as next coach,” web, Feb. 1):

Mr. Harris: What do you think was the problem with our last head coach, Ron Rivera?

Mr. Peters: He was a defensive-minded coach who in 2015 rode a quarterback having an NFL MVP career year all the way to an NFC title and Super Bowl loss to an AFC team with a Hall of Fame-bound quarterback.

Mr. Harris: So who do you have in mind to replace him?

Mr. Peters: Dan Quinn. He’s a defensive-minded coach who in 2016 rode a quarterback having a one-time NFL MVP career year all the way to an NFC title and Super Bowl loss to an AFC team with a Hall of Fame-bound quarterback.
