Our states must act now to stop the “sanctuary city” status that harbors criminals (“Biden’s toll at the U.S. southern border continues to climb,” web, Jan. 29). They must also send National Guard troops to our southern border in support of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The best way to show compassion is by having a legal, orderly immigration process. What we have now is anarchy sanctioned by the federal government, way outside the danger zone.

The Biden administration has abdicated its responsibility to protect our states and citizens from dangerous illegal immigration. It is acutely obvious that thousands of criminals — those wishing to harm our citizens and our country — are continually pouring over our southern border.

With the abdication of the federal government’s responsibility, states have the constitutional right and duty to defend themselves and their citizens from an illegal invasion. All states should follow the lead of Texas and join it by sending National Guard troops to help it defend itself.

It is time to stop a crisis that has the potential to destroy our country.
