After no player got all six Mega Millions winning numbers in the latest drawing, the jackpot for Tuesday totals $944 million.
The winning numbers Friday were white balls 2, 20, 51, 56 and 67 along with gold ball 19.
The Mega Millions grand prize was last won with a ticket bought in Texas and drawn on Sept. 10 for $810 million. There have been 29 drawings since, Mega Millions said in a release Saturday.
That jackpot of three months ago is the seventh largest in Mega Millions history, though Tuesday’s prize would surpass it if a player gets lucky on Christmas Eve.
If a player wins the jackpot Tuesday, he or she will be able to choose between an immediate cash option of $429.4 million or an annuity in which he or she gets a smaller sum followed by 29 annual payments, each 5% larger than the last.
Mega Millions tickets are sold for $2 each in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They are not sold in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada or Utah.
